Hi everyone. My name is HemRaj Thakur. I hails from Karsog , Tehsil Karsog , Distt Mandi HP. I have a rural background and my village is near 15 km from the main market Karsog. I have done my schooling up to matric at Govt High School Kashauhal, 3 km from my village Vijaypur.
Thereafter, I finished my Plus 2 at Govt Sr Sec School Karsog with Science Stream.
After my schooling, I appeared for 2 exams: National Defence Academy and JEE. I cleared both. I have a lot of respect for the armed forces and deep within there was a very strong desire to join the Indian Army. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to join the SSB interview due to a medical emergency at that time. Therefore, I joined NIT Hamirpur and completed my Btech in Civil in June 2018.
During my college, many instances happened that eventually turned my focus towards civil services and I started preparation for the same during my final year of college itself.
My decision was clear without any confusion therefore I left all college placements and left no backup plan with me. Though it seemed risky at that time I assumed the approach of high-risk high rewards and it finally paid off.
I wrote 2019 UPSC mains but could not get through but got 14th rank in HPAS in my 1st attempt.
Presently, I’m serving as Treasury Officer at Kaza Treasury at Spiti. Our function involves the authorisation of all govt transactions and financial matters thereof.
My story is nothing special, it’s like everyone else. It’s a combination of hard work, patience and courage to think big and execute professionally.
